Department of Agricultural Economics

Economics, a social science that deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services and with the theory and management of economies or economic systems. A subsidiary discipline of economics is defined as a set of sciences and methods that argues about effective economic factors in agriculture, economic relationships between agricultural production factors and using of economic principles in agricultural production, management and development.
Department of Agricultural Economics was established in 1994 with one B.Sc. program with 4 academic staffs. Then, on the commencing study year of 2001, a M.Sc. program in farm management was started. At 2006, a second M.Sc. program on rural development and agricultural economics were established. Currently, Department of Agricultural Economics is active with 11 member of internal staff, working with 180 students at one B.Sc. and 3 M.Sc. programs. We also plan to establish one more M.Sc. and 3 Ph.D. programs in relevant topics.
Some research areas in the Department of Agricultural Economics include: Econometrics, International Development, Community and rural development, Food safety and nutrition, International trade, Natural resource and environmental economics, Production economics, Risk and uncertainty, Consumer behavior and household economics, Labor economics, Forestry economics, Markets Analysis and competition, Agribusiness, Industrial organization, Marketing of agricultural products, Policy analysis, Rural economics and development.
Communication systems including internet access, library (books, journals, etc.) and other scientific services are centrally available through the authorities of faculty and university, although an independent service system is planned in our department. With these possibilities, Department of Agricultural Economics is fully prepared to supply services for some overseas students with pleasant environment of life and work.
